I also grew up in the era of Dial-up just like you. During those days, I believe, people were more personally connected. Internet and social media has indeed brought a revolution in communication but somehow it has made our lives so needlessly fast and quick that it has lost its charm- I believe. I agree with the points you mentioned in this article about how to disable the unwanted notifications and unfollow topics and people who bother you and disturb you.
