I’ll be really honest with you, I never cared for St. Patrick’s Day before and I also had no idea who St. Patrick was and why this holiday tradition was such a big deal.

However, as a new mom ready to show my daughter the world, everything matters now, including St. Patrick’s Day.

It matters because when she gets old enough to ask me, “Who is St. Patrick and why is he so important?”, I want to have the answer.

I also want to be able to do as many arts and crafts with her as possible. Plus a ton of fun activities and what better way to do this than celebrating every single holiday tradition there is so we can create memories together, year after year.

In case you’re also wondering about St. Patrick, here is the 30 second kid version of what is St. Patrick’s Day, who is Saint Patrick and more importantly, why do we wear green on St. Patrick’s Day.

What is St. Patrick’s Day and who is Saint Patrick?

St. Patrick’s Day is a national holiday in Ireland. It’s celebrated every year on March 17 in the US and Canada and many other countries around the world.

Saint Patrick is honored as the man who brought Christianity to Ireland. He was born in Britain and arrived in Ireland at 16 years old where he worked as a shepherd.

After he arrived, he became interested in Christianity and started teaching people about the Holy Trinity and converted many people in the country.

How is St. Patrick’s Day celebrated?

People celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with the color green, festivals and parades, eating corned beef and cabbage and wearing good luck symbols like the shamrock or four-leaf clover.

Every year, the Chicago River is turned green to honor St. Patrick’s Day also!

Why do we wear green on St. Patrick’s Day?

Ireland’s nickname is the “Emerald Isle” because of its lush green lands and also the green stripe on its flag.

It’s also said that the shamrock was what Saint Patrick used to teach the Holy Trinity to the people and the shamrock is green.

There’s also the myth about leprechauns that wearing green will make you invisible to them or else you’ll get pinched!

Because of these reasons, green has been the national color symbol of St. Paddy’s Day!

Now that we’re all caught up, let’s get to the fun part and take a look at 33 cute and attractive St. Patrick’s Day gifts and decorations to help you celebrate the holiday tradition with your favorite people.
