Monthly Reflection & January 2022 Goals

Welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a wonderful and safe holiday season. Can you believe it’s 2022 already? I’m feeling grateful to have been given another year of life and I’m ready to take on 2022!

If you’re new here, I created this blog series to document my journey as I grow and navigate through life in hopes to inspire you to do the same and grow with me. Each month, I’ll do a reflection of the last month, set 3 goals for the month ahead and ask 1 insightful question to think about.

So let’s get started!

Monthly Reflection & January 2022 Goals

December Reflection

December is always a busy time for me and even though we had yet another COVID Christmas, I was still bombarded with work, family gatherings and preparing gifts. I did slack off a bit and didn’t make a few of my goals a priority but hey, that’s life.

Last month my goals were:

1) Finish reading The Happiness Hypothesis

Fail. I just couldn’t get into the book. I tried and tried but I honestly couldn’t connect with it. I will have to come back to it another time with a new set of eyes hopefully. I figure there’s no point forcing myself to finish this book for the sake of finishing it when I won’t retain anything anyway.

2) Meditate for 45 minutes

So this one was interesting. I didn’t get to 45 minutes but I did do 30 minutes. It definitely felt different than my usual 15-20. There were the early moments when my heart was racing and a million thoughts were running through my mind.

And then all of a sudden everything disappeared and a sheet of darkness entered my mind. It was still and empty and I had no thoughts at all. My heart calmed down and I was able to choose which thoughts I wanted to bring into my awareness.

I stayed in that place for almost 10 minutes I would say and then my body started to get uncomfortable and I gave in and got up. Still, super cool experience, would definitely do it again.

3) Do a 1 hour at-home workout

So I totally predicted the future and the gyms actually closed 😫 horrible just horrible. And working out at home is just not enough for me plus I have 4 cats so you can imagine that in a tiny 1 bedroom apartment.

I wasn’t able to muster up the motivation to workout at home last month since the gyms closed half way through. But no excuses right?!

I guess I have to find a way around this now, who knows how long this will go on for again. At this point, half a workout is better than no workout 🤷🏻‍♀️

Year End Tasks

1) Plan out which books I’m going to read each month

Done! I feel like this will help me a lot in terms of giving me some direction. Although I’m sure I’m going to be reading books that I’ve planned for other months but that’s alright!

2) Update my vision board

Almost done! Have a few other pictures I still want to change but it’s got a fresh look and updated goals.

3) Write out a New Year Commitment letter to myself

Done! This one went up on my vision board as a daily reminder 👍🏻

January 2022 Goals

1) Do 50 squats 3 times a week

If gyms are going to be closed, I might as well get into the habit of doing some form of physical activity in my home. Working out is so crucial for my mental health, I feel like a completely different person when I miss gym days. Back to baby steps guys.

2) Read 3 books by January 31

This month I have 3 books planned out:

3) Meditate for 45 minutes

I’m going to do this again. I really liked that place I went to in my mind. It was still, quiet and calm. And I was in control. I just have to overcome my body getting antsy and wanting to get up. With patience & persistence, I’m sure I can 😌

Thanks for stopping by 💕
