Moms really are superheroes in disguise and they don’t ever get enough credit for all they do for us.
This year I’m feeling the love as Mother’s Day approaches and I’m writing this post while being 5 months pregnant with my first child.
I always knew Mother’s Day was special.
But this year, it’s even more special with baby in my belly. Being able to experience Mother’s Day as a mommie-to-be for the first time in my life is indescribable.
Every year I made sure to give my mom something that was homemade. I always felt that homemade gifts are more meaningful.
Not that buying gifts are not meaningful but personally, I like to make gifts when I can find the time. That’s why I choose DIY Mother’s Day gifts that are simple and easy to make.
Here are 5 DIY gifts to make for Mother’s Day this year that are simple, thoughtful and meaningful!

5 Easy & Meaningful Homemade Mother’s Day Gifts
1) DIY Agate Coasters
Coasters can easily make good dining table accents and these super attractive DIY agate coasters will do just that. They’re beautiful and easy to make.
The best part is you can conveniently make them again with the left over material.
I made these coasters a few years ago for Mother’s Day and they were so fun to make! I had such a great time doing them.
To personalize these DIY agate coasters for Mother’s Day, paint them in your mom’s favorite colors, pictures or patterns to make them extra special.
Supplies Needed:
- Sculpey III Polymer Clay
- Acrylic Paint
- Sculpey Gloss Glaze
- Classic Gold Liquid Leaf
- Clear Bumpers (optional)
- Paintbrushes
- Rolling Pin
I will say though that painting the agate design was not easy for me. Especially since I do not consider myself a good painter so I modified it to my painting level.
I also ended up making this again since I had clay left over. You can paint this anyway you like and customize it to your needs.

2) DIY Pom Pom Rug
This DIY pom pom rug is the perfect gift for your mother’s home and even yours! I made this 2 times actually and thinking about making it a third time.
I love craft gifts that don’t require a ton of supplies and this is one of them. The only thing is that it can be a bit time consuming, so definitely make this well in advance of Mother’s Day.
Supplies Needed:
I love how customizable this project was. The first time around, I used regular yarn that linted quite fast since the rug was being used a lot.
Thus, all my hard work didn’t last very long. So it’s worth it to spend a little more to get a better quality yarn material.
The second time around, I made sure to get high quality yarn that lasted much longer (they were much softer too!).
You can also cut the rug into different shapes and sizes and make your own design pattern as well. The second time I made this was for my 4 little kitties and they LOVED it.
3) DIY Gemstone Soap
This DIY gemstone soap is a gift that is always a hit no matter what the occasion is! I have made this gift so many times over the years and it never gets old.
It’s beautiful, easy to make and everyone always compliments on how practical they are.
I didn’t like the soap base that’s recommended in the original blogpost so I’ve been making it with a different brand (linked below) that I found to be much softer.
The diamond molds are also smaller in size compared to the rectangle mold so using less gem cuts for the inside will make the colors stand out more.
The essentials oil also make a huge difference so make sure to get a bigger bottle if you plan on doing this more than once!
Supplies Needed:
- Melt and pour soap base (clear and opaque)
- Soap colorants
- Essential oils
- Silicone molds (rectangle and diamond)
- Knife
- Glass Pyrex cups
- Silicone spatula
- Disposable plastic cups
4) Paint By Numbers
Although this one is not as crafty, it’s still very meaningful and turns out beautiful every single time. I’ve done two of these myself.
All you have to do is pick a picture and follow the numbers on the canvas and voilà!
Supplies Needed:
My mom really appreciated the time that went into painting the canvas. I had tons of fun painting this and it was very therapeutic for me as well.
It was also very satisfying to see the portrait starting to come together piece by piece.
5) DIY Herbal Bath Salts
Nothing says self care more than telling Mum to take a nice warm bath after a long day. This is not your average DIY bath salts.
It’s a simple herbal bath salts recipe with a holistic touch to it.
Supplies
- Glass Test Tubes
- Epsom salt
- Himalayan Pink salt
- Baking Soda
- Organic Dried Rose Petals
- Dried Lavender Flowers
- Dried Calendula
- Dried Tulsi Basil
- Lavender Essential Oil
- Cardamom Essential Oil
- Rosemary Essential Oil
- Olive Oil
FYI: buying all the ingredients can get pricey so you could skip a few or only choose the ones you really want. The good thing is that if you do get all these ingredients, they last a very long time, so you could do this again for other holidays like Christmas or add them to other things like bath bombs or soaps!
Going the extra mile and adding a herbal twist to this DIY recipe is highly recommended! It really stands out from the regular bath salt recipes out there.
Not to mention, the glass test tubes make it very aesthetically pleasing as well. Mom approved!
