Every week that goes by honestly gives me more reassurance. I’ve read a lot about miscarriage rates being higher in the first trimester.
To be honest, I was reluctant to share the good news with people at times; oddly enough, it made me feel a bit guilty that I was sharing “too early”.
I’ve now come to terms with it though; every day is a blessing. Honestly, loss can happen at anytime.
It’s something that’s not within our control and my heart goes out to those who have been through it.
The best thing we can do is to let go and let the universe do what it’s meant to do.

First Trimester: Week 13 Pregnancy Recap
Symptoms
Many of my symptoms have really calmed down these last two weeks. The nausea toned down a lot!
This entire week, I probably felt nauseous only two or three times for about 20-30mins and then it went away. YAY!
Headaches
Started to experience this “new” symptom this week. At times, it would be quite intense.
I used to suffer from intense migraines and through lifestyle changes like taking care of my physical and mental health, the migraines have subsided.
This feels more like tension headaches with heavy pressure on one side. I’m sure all you mamas are aware it’s best not to take any medication.
They say Tylenol is ok in limited amounts but personally, I prefer not to take anything. The only solution for me is peppermint oil, water, and rest.
Vivid dreams
I’ve had this since the beginning and it’s still going strong every night.
Breast tenderness
Still very consistent, although not as painful when I’m sleeping at night.
Bloating
This week has been better than the last few weeks, although constipation is still going on which is where the bloating is coming from. Exercising does help a lot though!
Abdominal pain & cramping
This was another symptom that was pretty extreme for me for the first 2 months and got me quite worried.
The intense cramping (especially on the right side) has subsided.
I only felt uncomfortable cramping about once this week. Although, I still have thigh cramps on the right side that’s very noticeable when I’m standing for long periods of time.
Favorites This Week
Thought I’d try out SHEIN for the first time. I’ve never ordered anything from there before but their Maternity clothes were quite cheap so I ordered a few items.
Like online shopping always is, some worked out and some didn’t. However, I did really love these 3 items:
Body Changes
I think I’ve officially graduated from the bloating stage to the showing stage!
The bottom part of my stomach has rounded out a bit and it feels more “hard” when I touch it.
Compared to the past month when it was just pure bloating, my stomach felt more jiggly lol!
I also have some fluff in my abdomen and I can feel that the belly fat is beginning to spread out which is interesting…
I’m also keeping a close eye on my weight and making sure I’m on track.
I’ve written out each week on a notepad with the maximum amount of weight I should gain in order to meet the 25lbs weight gain mark by week 40.
Since diabetes runs in my family, I’m extra diligent about this and being very mindful of how much and what I’m eating.
Mood & Energy
SO glad the exhaustion has eased up and my energy levels are coming back up. I can actually stay up after work now!
I went to the gym 3 times this week which was amazing. I also noticed a difference in how I felt after the gym too.
Before I was pregnant, my morning gym workouts would set me up for the day, giving me a burst of energy that lasted until evening.
However, during the first 2 months of my pregnancy, it was so difficult to gather enough energy to workout.
I would get an energy boost for about 1 hour and then I would need a 2 hour nap afterwards. I’ve noticed my energy boosts lasting much longer this week!
Cravings
My cravings have also simmered down. During the first 2 months, I had so many different cravings all the time and they were pretty intense.
I’m very glad it’s toned down because I was craving pretty unhealthy foods!
This week, I’m still craving ICE COLD drinks (water, smoothies, juices). I literally put ice cubes in everything. Had a strange Japadog craving one day.
For those of you who have not tried Japadog before, it’s a Japanese style hot dog made with Kurobuta or Kobe Beef served with Japanese style toppings (seaweed, terimayo, and ebi tempura to name a few).
The other craving I had was healthy wholesome foods.
Most likely because I was eating a lot of random junk food and salty and deep fried snacks that my body just needed something pure and simple.
I got CHAU Veggie Express two days in a row. If you’re in Vancouver, I highly recommend you stop by and try out this Vegan Vietnamese restaurant!
