When people told me I was going to die in the summer heat being pregnant and in the third trimester, I kind of brushed it off thinking “It can’t be that bad…!”

Well, I was wrong. SO wrong. This week’s unseasonably hot weather gave me a taste of what it’s going to be like this summer for me when I enter the last trimester.

I’ve always LOVED the sun and the hot humid weather. I live for tropical places – when I’m not pregnant that is. The heat really does make it that much harder.

The only good part is the beautiful summer maternity dresses I’ll get to wear!

Second Trimester: Week 20 Pregnancy Recap

Symptoms

Headaches

I blame the heat for this! We had temperatures up to almost 30 degrees at some points during this week here in Vancouver, BC.

I just felt like I was overheating if I’m not sitting beside an air conditioner.

Swollen feet

Again, because it was so hot, my feet were swelling. I felt tons of pressure on my heels when I’m standing for too long and it’s not even officially summer yet.

Fatigue

Found it very hard for me to stay awake this entire week. You guessed it, I totally blame the heat. All day at work I felt like passing out. Gave in and had a few cups of coffee this week…

Body Changes

Holy weight gain! It’s starting to happen. I guess I’ve held off for all these months.

I’ve been very slowly and incrementally gaining about 0.5 pounds every week in the second trimester so far.

This week I’ve gone up 2 pounds and I’ve gained about 13 pounds in total. I’m mostly worried about gaining weight too fast and getting stretch marks but I do know that sometimes it’s inevitable as long as baby is healthy!

Cravings

Had a mad craving for lemon cheesecake this week. I searched all over Uber Eats for a dessert place that had what I was looking for – couldn’t find it.

I even thought about making a lemon cheesecake myself but since I’m moving tomorrow, all of my baking materials were packed.

I finally found key lime pie from a dessert place called The Pie Hole and realized that what I REALLY wanted was just pie crust!

Anyway, that pie was the best thing that happened this week.

Highlights This Week

Fetal movements or stomach gas? I’m not really sure still! Many sources say you should be able to start feeling some movements soon so I’ve been very attentive.

Since this is my first pregnancy, I’m not sure how exactly it’s supposed to feel.

I’m very active all day long and it’s only when I’m lying in bed that I can see if there’s any movement going on.

So far I’ve felt some light rumbling and gas bubbles and a few random pulses here and there. Still not certain if it’s baby right now but I’m sure I will know soon!
